Last Thursday was graduation here at Palmer West. It's always sad to see people graduate especially from our school because you get to know classmates so well and then they move on. Our college is pretty small, so you get to know the other classmates well. It's weird to think that in 6 months my class will be up on that stage graduating.
So this is finals week. It's nice being in 11th quarter and only having two finals. So not a lot going on there.
The weather in San Jose has been very nice. It's supposed to be in the high 70's all week, a big change from weather in Washington.
Well, I'm off to go study for finals tomorrow.

Rodeo
Hello again. So this weekend I went to provide chiropractic care at the Santa Maria rodeo with our sports council. It was a lot of fun. The population was really receptive to chiropractic and what we were able provide.
So I've purchased my plane ticket for Puerto Rico where the American Chiropractic Association Sports Council annual sports symposium is being held this year. It should be a great opportunity to talk with the best sports chiropractors in the country.
This is my last full week in 11th quarter. Graduation is coming fast and soon I will be out in the real world. Looking back, my time at chiropractic school went by so fast. I still remember my first palpation class and here I am so close to becoming a doctor!

8th week!
I can't believe it's already 8th week. This quarter has gone by really fast. I only had one midterm this quarter which is pretty awesome. Usually theres like 5 or 6 in a week, so one is pretty awesome.
Another week of school, and its at my last week at the outreach clinic.

Clinic
Bonjour everyone! Starting 11th quarter! Very exciting times. I'm in full swing in clinic and everything. I had my first rounds of out-reach today, where we went to treat at a retirement home. It was a different population from the typical sports council population I'm used to treating, but it was fun.
The best part of 11th quarter? Basically I have no more classes. I have class on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. A huge change from Monday through Friday from 7:40 to 5:00!
It's really a transition into becoming a doctor at this point. It less about the academic world and more about applying the academic world to the patient. The patient doesn't really care about all the other academic stuff we think is cool, they care about the condition they have and nothing else. So it's important for me to focus on what their presenting condition is and do what I became a doctor for... to help people.

Hello again
Hello everyone. Sorry for the long delay in my blogging.
Well, I'm finally in the out-patient clinic. What I've been waiting for for two years now. It's amazing actually getting to treat the general population and help them.
So, so much has changed since the last time I blogged. I'm now the Sports Council On-campus Events Coordinator. Basically, I bring speakers in to come talk about sports. Tomorrow I have Dr. Tucker coming in to show off a shoulder rehabilitation class. It's going to be a lot of fun. Next quarter we are doing a KT taping seminar which will also be a good experience for everyone.
This quarter the Sports Council worked at the Kaiser Half Marathon in the city and the America's Best National Cheer and Dance Competition. They were my first events being an intern and they were tons of fun. Sports Council also started working with the San Jose State University Rugby team. Working those events is interesting because you see a lot of carnage out there.
I have National Boards this quarter.... once again. I haven't started to study for them, which I probably should start soon. I'm taking parts II and III this quarter. A lot of diagnosing on these ones so they should be interesting.
10th quarter is great. We have class pretty much every day from 7:40 to 12:15. It's a big change from going all day. If only I could find a way to enjoy the California sun....
Anyways, that's it from me now. I'll try to get better at blogging more regularly.
See ya!

Hello out there. Let's start with a quick introduction of myself:
Well, I'm Michael. I started at PCCW when I was 19, and I'm now a student intern in 9th quarter. I'm President of the Motion Palpation Club and Treasurer of the Palmer Pride Hockey Team. I was born and raised in Washington state and now live in California.
Why Palmer West?
When I was deciding on a school I thought all Chiropractic Colleges were the same. Now that I have been here for two years, I've realized they are not the same at all. Palmer West is a sports chiropractic based school. On campus we have our Sports Council (check out the website). Sports Council was a large reason why I picked Palmer West. Sports Council holds a couple sporting events per quarter where we get to go and provide chiropractic care at a community event. Through Sports Council we've worked at the National Senior Games at Stanford, many 5/10K runs, Sea Otter Classic (a large mountain bike race) just to name a few. Palmer West also starts students palpating in the first quarter. It's been great being able to start palpating so early because that's what you are going to do for the rest of your life. So when we are finally in clinic, we've already been palpating and setting up adjustments for two years.
How about Chiropractic?
I picked Chiropractic to work on musculoskeletal complaints. There are a lot of musculoskeletal problems out there, and not a lot of doctors that focus on the musculoskeletal systems. Personally, this is the area of interest for me. I do a lot of Graston (a soft tissue technique using what looks like a butter knife), A.R.T. (Active Release Technique, another soft tissue technique using hands to stretch muscles), and kinesiology taping (a stretchy tape seen in the Olympics). I also have an interest in rehabilitation, helping to strengthen muscles to prevent musculoskeletal complaints from reoccurring.
Back to class for now!
